Keep children and pets off the loading path
A moving day with children or a pet in the same rooms as the crew is how a carton is opened, a dog runs into the street, and a toddler sits on the stairs while a fridge is coming down. The job is not to keep them “busy.” The job is to keep them out of the path of the load.
This is the 6 October 2026 note. It is for a house or a flat in Pakistan, whether the move is inside one city or to another.
Children
Ask a relative, a neighbour, or a school friend to take the children for the loading hours. If that is not possible, pick one closed room that is not being packed yet, and keep them there with a person, not with a promise. The stairwell, the lift, and the gate are not play areas. A child who “just wants to help” is standing where a wardrobe has to turn.
Pack a bag they will not see loaded: water, snacks, a charger, one toy, medicines, and a change of clothes. That bag stays with you. If the new house is not ready, they still need that bag. There is a separate note on this site for a house that is not ready.
Pets
A cat or a dog will try the open door the moment the sofa leaves. Put the animal in a carrier, or in a bathroom with the door shut and a sign on it, before the first carton moves. Feed them early. Walk the dog before the truck arrives, not while the crew is asking for the keys. A bird cage and a fish tank are not “small boxes.” Say they exist when you book. Fish travel separately, in water you can carry, not in a leaking tank on the truck.
Societies that need a gate pass for a truck often have a rule about animals at the gate as well. Get that pass the day before. The fridge and gate-pass note on this site is the same timing: do it in writing, not with a nod from the guard.
What you tell the crew
One sentence at the start of the day is enough: the children are with an aunt, or they are in that room; the dog is in the bathroom. Point at the door. Do not assume the crew will guess. If someone in the family is elderly and will stay in the house, give them a chair away from the stairs, and a glass of water, before the first piece is lifted.
