What to do when the new house is not ready
The new house is not ready more often than people admit: paint, a delayed possession, or a tenant who has not left. The worst response is to load everything anyway and hope the truck can wait. A truck is not a warehouse, and a crew cannot sit outside a gate for three days.

Split the move
Take what you need for the gap: clothes, school bags, medicines, and documents. Those stay with you or go to a relative. Everything else can be stored if the office has space and you accept a second delivery date.
Ask where the goods will sit, whether you can retrieve one carton, and how you will be told when the storage period is being extended. An open-ended “we will see” is how a short hold becomes a dispute.
What to confirm in writing
The inventory at the time of storage, the condition of anything already damaged, and the name of the person allowed to release the goods. If the delay is the building, not you
A society that will not let the truck in until Monday is a dated delivery, not storage. Tell the office as soon as the management tells you. Moving the date is cheaper than unloading into a store and loading again.

One more thing to settle
Agree the maximum number of days before a stored move is treated as a new booking. A three-day hold and a three-week hold are different uses of space. If the goods include a mattress and monsoon is due, ask how the store is closed against damp. Do not leave that question until you smell the problem at delivery.
